Residency for the People (RftP) has been collaborating with artist and chef Waew since its inception. Waew plays a key role in all RftP’s collaborations with artists and residents. She also leads her own projects and guides residents in kitchen-based activities.
Waew’s creativity is evident in projects like “Room inside the Elephant,” a two-person restaurant set inside an elephant on wheels, and “The Dumpling Sauna,” a sauna shaped like a dumpling where dumplings are steamed beneath the seats. These projects showcase her ability to blend art and culinary experiences in innovative ways.
The residency’s restaurant is central to RftP, where Waew prepares fresh dishes and dumplings every day, inspired by her Thai roots. She describes her cooking as “confusion cuisine,” reflecting the unique and surprising flavors in her dishes. Her meals often draw from her life experiences, touching on social themes and political issues.
Waew is always exploring new ideas and is currently launching her own brand op Pad Thai Sauce so stay tuned!
